On July 10-13, 2011, delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stayed with an official visit in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, together with Taras Chornovil, First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Yevhen Dobriak, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Global Security and International Cooperation of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Head of the Group on the Inter-Parliamentary Liaison with the Islamic Republic of Iran visited the Islamic Republic of Iran at the invitation of the Iranian Parliament.
Ukrainian delegation, headed by Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly A. Larijani, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Second Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Sahahab od-Din Sadr, Head of Iran-Ukraine parliamentary group of friendship M.Sanai, and acting President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines M. Ghazanfari.
The parties discussed the state and prospects of Ukrainian-Iranian relations. Special attention was paid to the development of inter-parliamentary relations, bilateral economic cooperation, particularly within the forthcoming session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Iranian Panel on Economic and Trading Cooperation, and protection of interests of Ukrainian businessmen in Iran.
The participants of the meeting discussed development of humanitarian contacts, especially between the education establishments, streamlining of visa policy, support of the freedom of media and free access to the Internet.
